Christian Education for Children

Sunday Mornings at St. James the Less

Our Episcopal church school is a special place where children are encouraged to discover God through worship, play, art and celebration. From infants to young adults, children learn about their faith with others in a nurturing, age-appropriate environment. Please join us on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m.

Young People in grades third through twelfth grade attend worship  with their parents.  Sunday School begins after communion.

Childcare (newborn through toddler)

Sunday morning nursery care is offered to infants and toddlers beginning at 9:45 until 11:45. Young children are cared for in our bright, safe and nurturing nursery. Our childcare caregivers are experienced and skilled professionals.

Children’s Chapel (pre-school through 2nd grade)

Children are invited to come to our beautiful Children’s Chapel and explore the wonders of Godly Play. Godly Play is a Montessori inspired approach that was developed in 1971 by Rev. Dr. Jerome Berryman. This worldwide program instills in children a sense of wonder and a reverence for the sacred. Beautiful hands-on materials are used to convey the biblical stories and the life of Jesus. Children listen to the stories and then respond through crayons, paints and clay. At 10:40, children join their parents in Church for the Holy Eucharist. At the conclusion of the service, young people are invited to their classrooms for a period of 45 minutes.

Church School

All young people are invited to attend Church School after the service at approximately 11:15. Classes are organized by grade level and meet for approximately forty minutes. The curriculum we use is called: ”Rock Solid: Building A Heart of Faith” The curriculum walks us through the stories of the bible in a colorful, exciting way. Young people learn how to incorporate the lessons into their lives. Children will also learn the rich tradition of the Episcopal Church as they sing our hymns, hear beautiful Psalms and become familiar with the liturgy.
